Dear reader,

Welcome to the second edition of the BEEYONDERS newsletter. We’re happy to take this opportunity to bring you up to date on the milestones that have been achieved so far.

Our new digital twin architecture offers a malleable yet robust strategy, customized to each use case and its corresponding technology. Notably, we've charted the technical pathways bridging autonomous vehicles, collaborative robotics, and the digital twin.

Furthermore, we have defined the technical interfaces between autonomous vehicles, collaborative robotics, and the digital twin. Also, we developed a simulation pipeline to test algorithms in autonomous vehicles, with a focus on reinforcement learning for the wheel loader’s loading and unloading tasks.  Additionally, a set of sensors has been selected to ensure reliable perception systems, even in low visibility conditions.

The project’s technical requirements have been set, serving as a baseline for our use case demonstrations and laying out the criteria for our economic, technical, social, and environmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These indicators will play a crucial role in assessing the benefits and advancements of the technologies we're innovating within BEEYONDERS.

On the global front, our project coordinators, Antonio Alonso Cepeda and José Carlos Jimenez, ventured to Japan. Their mission was to foster and solidify lasting professional ties with an array of Japanese stakeholders, including businesses, academic institutions, and tech hubs. If you're curious to know the stages of the journey, search for #beeyondersEU on Twitter.

We invite you to read this newsletter edition and hope you find it interesting.

With kind regards,

Sofia Finzi and Mattia Benedetti,
BEEYONDERS communication managers,

Empowering Knowledge: Online Training on Directive 2006/42/EC from RoBétArmé Consortium
A virtual training session was held by UNI on July 17th, 2023 for the RobétArmé consortium. The training focused on providing an overview of the "Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery" and European voluntary standards, which are critical for the project's activities. The session aimed to increase awareness of the document's significance. The training is available on the RoBétArmé YouTube channel and accessible to anyone interested in learning more about it.

HumanTech: Revolutionising construction with AI

Our sister project HumanTech focuses on creating human-centred technologies for a safer and greener construction industry. In this interview, the Project Coordinator, Jason Rambach, shares insights about the initiative’s focus and cutting-edge technological solutions — from exoskeletons to collaborative robots —, combining computer vision and 3D semantic segmentation with BIM modelling to address construction workers' safety and well-being as well as environmental sustainability and efficiency in the building sector.
